1-Tina Cannon and AAUW VolunteersKent Gardens Elementary School once again asked for AAUW members to assist with evaluating student projects at their annual science fair (last year called Dimensions of Inventions).

On June 23, 2014, about 100 students (in grades 3 to 6) exhibited their projects between 9 and 10:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Ten AAUW volunteers talked to the students one-on-one, asking each student to explain his or her project. Each volunteer used a checklist to provide feedback to each student, along with words of encouragement. The event was organized by Tina Cannon, Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, who worked with the students since January to prepare their projects.

4-Wen Yi with StudentThe event was a fun way to encourage young students to think creatively about science, and the volunteers had a great morning being amazed by the students! A special thank you to this year’s volunteers: Ethel Hansan, Margaret Hines, Mary Lou Melley, Judy Page, Caroline Pickens, Linda Regan, Judy Rodgers, Laura Slobey, Suzanne Watts, and Wen Yi.
